Definition of “Stilyagin” by Darrin Chandler [11 May 2005 08:08 MST]

Now and then someone comes here searching for the word “stilyagin.” I suspect they've seen the word and are trying to find out what in the world it means. I've challenged some people to find out, but nobody seems to be able to do so. Not too surprising, really.

“Stilyagin” is somewhat obscure Russian slang, and derives from their word for style. There's no direct translation, but it applies to a certain class of person in their recent history, something like “hippie” or “beatnik” in the Unites States.

Now I've given you some very good hints. The rest is left as an exercise for the reader…
